HOWE AWESOME! You may notice something new at the Circulation Desk in early May: the Howe Library Awesome Box.
The Awesome Box is a way for you to share books, CDs, and DVDs that you enjoyed with other patrons. It doesn't matter what format it's in or what age it's aimed at; if it's awesome, we want to know. Just return your item to this "Awesome Box" or tuck a "Howe Awesome!" bookmark in the item when you bring it back. We'll keep a list of everything that has been returned in this way. You can see what's "Recently Awesome" by: - visiting the "Howe Awesome" website at http://howe.awesomebox.io/ - following @howeawesome on Twitter or liking Howe Library on Facebook - picking up a printed list near the Awesome Box - signing up to get lists e-mailed to you through our "New Books In Your Inbox" service - looking for "Howe Awesome!" stickers on materials in the library
Howe Library's Awesome Box is inspired by, and presented in collaboration with, the Harvard Library Innovation Lab.
The Howel Classic Scores a Hole in One!
Many thanks go to the individuals, families and businesses of the Upper Valley that came together to support the 2013 Howel Classic mini golf extravaganza. In its third year, The Howel Classic has become THE event to attend. The weekend was quite a success, with over 400 people attending and the library raising $34,600 – 23% more than the previous year. 130 people came to Saturday’s festivities, including 79 who had never attended the event before! We had a great mix of people and the library was humming with good conversation and jazz music. And let’s not forget the scrumptious food and libations that rounded out the festive evening. Sunday was a different event entirely with 282 family members coming to enjoy golf, pizza and burritos. There were so many kids running around it was hard to keep track of them (although we knew they were here from the loud noises emanating from the course and café). They ate their way through 26 pizzas, 200 mini-burritos and 200 cookies! Several people said, my child has never had this much fun in the library. And one mother relayed “My daughter is already doing the 365 day count down to the next Howel Classic!” Join us March 22-23, 2014 for the 4th Annual Howel Classic mini-golf extravaganza. A special thank you to our sponsors:

CHECK OUT A TELESCOPE Starting June 11, you can get a telescope from the library! Ask at the Circulation Desk and check the telescope out for two weeks, with no renewals. We are appreciative of the New Hampshire Astronomical Society’s efforts in providing us with the telescope and arranging for its maintenance. Our purchase of the telescope from the NHAS was made possible by funding provided by The Sunup Foundation in memory of long-time Howe volunteer Joy Lange Boardman.
