Everyone is Reading 2017!

Howe Library celebrates the 150th birthday of Canada with the choice of Canadian fiction for the 2017 Everyone is Reading selection.

Etta and Otto and Russell and James By Emma Hooper

“82-year-old Etta has never seen the ocean. Early one morning she takes a rifle, some chocolate, and her best boots, and begins walking the 3,232 kilometers from rural Saskatchewan to Halifax. Her husband wakes to a note left on the kitchen table; his oldest friend, who has loved Etta from afar for 60 years, insists on finding her, wherever she's gone.”

This is a story about a journey; about memories and unfulfilled desires. It’s a story told in letters and flashbacks with a bit of magical realism (a talking coyote) thrown in. We hope you’ll love these touchingly vulnerable characters as much as we do.

There will be discussions and events celebrating Canada throughout September and October. Please join us!

Check out a copy of Etta and Otto and Russell and James. For more Canadian literature, try these favorites. Happy Birthday, Canada!
